SAY NO TO CORPORATE FASCISM
What does Occupy mean to you?
(Photo) KKK/Neo-Nazis “patrolling” white neighborhoods in Sanford, FL — the city where Trayvon Martin was murdered by a still-at-large racist.
It wouldn’t surprise me if these white supremacist groups in Sanford have active connections with the local police (who have evinced a pattern of crass racism over the years in their own right).
Most of the reports I’ve read which document extremist right-wing hate groups in the South (for instance, see the work of the Southern Poverty Law Center), note that some of the largest appeal for these far-right groups is among cops, prosecution attorneys, prison guards, etc. (besides the obvious “lumpen-proletarian”, poor, “trailer-park” whites).
This is why I say that the Civil War didn’t go far enough, especially given that the post-war ”Radical Reconstruction” period was quickly abandoned as the result of a compromise between wealthy Northern industrial capitalists and the Southern plantation-owning aristocrats.
One can actually trace a more or less straight line between the defeat of Reconstruction, the advent of the Black Codes in the 1880s and 1890s, the rise of Jim Crow segregration, and through to the present (taking a brief — though nonetheless important — detour during the 50s/60s civil rights movement).

Via Democracy Now: “Kenneth Chamberlain, an African-American former marine, was killed after police responded to a false alert from his medical pendant. The officers broke down Chamberlain’s door, tasered him, and then shot him dead…”. Ana Kasparian, Cenk Uygur and Jayar Jackson discuss the case in the context of the Trayvon Martin shooting and other issues on The Young Turks.
Democracy Now!: White Plains Mayor Apologizes for Police Killing of Kenneth Chamberlain
The mayor of White Plains, New York, has finally apologized to the family of a 68-year-old veteran fatally shot by police in his own home. Kenneth Chamberlain, an African-American former marine, was killed after police responded to a false alert from his medical pendant. The officers broke down Chamberlain’s door, tasered him, and then shot him dead. That was on November 19th. On Friday, more than four months later, White Plains Mayor Tom Roach issued a statement offering “condolences” to Chamberlain’s family. The move came one day after Chamberlain’s son, Kenneth Chamberlain, Jr., publicly criticized Roach and other city officials for staying silent about the case for so long. Chamberlain’s killing is expected to go before a grand jury in the coming weeks.
I highly advise you to watch either the Young Turks video or the Democracy Now! video provided at the above link. The details of this story are gruesome.
I wrote about this a few days ago. There is audio and video proof that could be used against the officers, but as usual, the police department brushes off the murder of a black person to save their own.
This story needs to go viral. Kenneth needs justice and the officers responsible for his death need to be prosecuted.
The interior of the building and exterior walls in a rear courtyard were heavily marked by spray paint / graffiti. The graffiti took many forms some of which consisted of anarchy symbols, the words, “Burn it down,” “New Social Order,” and “Kill Cops” were painted in various places throughout the building interior. Anarchist and white supremacy literature was also seen inside one of the rooms. Interior doors and fixtures were removed or disassembled and were used to heavily barricade entry/exit doors in an apparent effort to keep police officers from gaining entry.
—From San Francisco Police Department press release on Occupy San Francisco’s “SF Commune” at 888 Turk, from Public Information Officer Michael Andraychak. The building was raided today in an effort by SFPD and county sheriffs, resulting in 75 arrests for misdemeanor trespassing on the Catholic church property, left vacant for several years. Piece with sketches coming tomorrow for Truthout.

“By contrast, at the height of the Occupy Wall Street protests and in related protests in other cities, officials at the U.S. Homeland Security Department repeatedly urged authorities not to produce intelligence reports based simply on protest activities.
“Occupy Wall Street-type protesters mostly are engaged in constitutionally protected activity,” department officials wrote in documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act by the website Gawker. “We maintain our longstanding position that DHS should not report on activities when the basis for reporting is political speech.”
